Other Interests & Hobbies: I also enjoy playing golf and other sports. I am also into playing music like guitar and drums.
After High School: After High school I would like to continue to play basketball and then pursue the Bachelor of Commerce degree.
My Journey:
It all started out like any other basketball kid. I began playing at the age of 7, for a Youth Basketball Organization(PGMBA). Here this taught me basic skills and drills. This was just supposed to be for fun, and it was. However I caught on quick and learned many elite skills at such a young age. This program went until I was in grade 8. It was in grade 8 when I tried out for the sophomore team.(gr.9/10 team) I made this team and was the starting point guard for the whole season. I averaged 8.5Ast, 10.0Pts, 5Stl. I achieved most Inspirational player this year. Unfortunately my team didn't finish well that year placing 4th in city districts.
After the school season I played for the U14 Regional Team. This team consisted of the elite players that were 14 years old. On this team I played shooting guard since we had a reliable point guard. We did alright, resulting in second place in the TRU tournament and we didn't do so well in the Langley Jamboree. I was still developing on this team but it made me a much better scorer. In this year I attended the BC summer games (2012). This was a great experience to be able to play against the best players in the province. My coach through this season was Vaughn Mueller. That summer I trained hard at UNBC doing camps and individual training.
This next season for KRSS was better for me. I averaged 14.4Pts, 8.1Ast, 6.3Stl. We placed 3rd in districts suffering a tough loss in the semi finals. I was awarded All-Star for that season. (2013)
U15 started up that spring. This team was much better than the last team.(U14) When we went down to the TRU( Thompson Rivers University) tournament we came 1st by a landslide. In the Langley Jamboree we came 2nd in a disappointing loss in the finals. I played well in this season, getting much better at playing a shooting guard position. I was one of the leaders on this team and my game changed in this year to becoming a quick explosive guard and a better shooter. Mitchell Johnson coached me this year. He really helped me understand the game more clearly.
The following school season(gr.10) I had a tough decision. I could play down at a 9/10 level or I could play up at a 11/12 level. I had decided to play down to work on my scoring and leader rolls on the team. The only downside to this decision was that I became frustrated at times because some people on my team were not on the same level as me. So I had to take over a bit on offence. This season I averaged 24pts, 8Ast, 7.4 Stl per game. I was rewarded multiple All-Star awards and the MVP award. We finished 2nd in districts and zones. After this school season ended, I got a call from Todd Jordan, UNBC mens basketball head coach. He invited me to play for a U17 All-Star team. I accepted the offer and played with this team until august. With this team I learned so much! Especially from playing with the best players in the north for grades 11/12. With this team we travelled to Langley and Central Washington. In Langley the team did pretty well placing 2nd out of 18 in the tournament. I Washington we played 9 games in three days! My team won 5 out of the 9. This was a great experience because I got to see so many different team from the States and It opened my eyes a little to see the competition down there!
The next chapter to my career is almost present. I got accepted into the Canadian Sports School, Which started up for me in the fall. The School is for 20 elite athletes in the city that want to go further in excelling in their sport. It is offered all school year long, in the afternoons. The School has already helped me so much in achieving my goals. Here I have personal trainers in the weight room and in speed and agility. We have also had mental trainers come in and help us learn about the mental side of sports. I am currently training hard in off-season for my last high school season coming up next year. I cannot wait!
My high school basketball career is finally over. It only feels as it has just begun. Basketball has been a very big part of my life and the Canadian Sports School has helped me immensely. For example, last year my vertical jump was 28" and this year I have improved it to 39"! For Kelly Road, I have made a huge impact on leading them to a zone championship and a trip down to provincials. My goal ever since grade 8 was to help get Kelly Road back on the map! I feel like I have acomplished that goal and I am ready to tackle more goals. My plan is to attend UNBC to pursue the bachelor of commerce. Here I plan on majoring in marketing and management and I plan on using this education to open my own business one day.
